Back when I was still attempting to meditate, one of my favorite visualizations while doing so is to imagine I’m floating in a sea of stars. I wanted to capture the idea of letting the self fall away in order to experience a connection to the universe. This is why the woman seems to disappear into her surroundings. Initially, I pictured her as a tiny figure in the center of a vast lake, but the sketches just weren’t visually interesting. Closer images of my subjects give viewers someone to relate to, which is especially important for pieces that are attempting to get at the experiences that connect us all. This piece is the third installment in a series that I’ve tentatively titled “The Human Experience.” Other pieces in this series include Seduction, and Inspiration.
